Production

I produce songs for singers and songwriters.

Whether you want to record a single, an EP, a demo or an album, I work with you to take your music from rough ideas to a fully produced, professionally mixed track.

I specialise at pop, acoustic, rock, country and indie.  I’m also a multi-instrumentalist and I produced, arranged and played most of the instruments on the tracks on this page.

If you’re looking to make music that is timeless, classic, atmospheric and will stand up 20 years from now, get in touch!

Studio Rates

I have two rate tiers – see below.  I’m usually happy to negotiate for multiple songs.

Independent Rate – £1,000

This includes recording, production, instrumentation, arranging, plus mixing and mastering.  I’ll get your song to a radio-ready, release-ready master.

Professional Rate – £1,500+

For bigger projects that require extra time, session musicians, more tracks and external mixing and mastering.

I work out of a custom-built, air-conditioned  garden studio.

In this cosy little studio, I’ve created an environment for musicians to feel inspired and relaxed.

I have numerous microphones for recording vocals, lots of guitars, a fully-weighted keyboard, a drum kit, tons of percussion, effects pedals, ambient lighting, settees, note pads, a library of music books and, of course, the polaroid hall of fame!

Come over to record, write or just chat and have a cuppa.

Frequently Asked Questions…

Letting a stranger work on your project can be a scary prospect. You’re understandably protective over your work and want to find someone who wants nothing more than to make your music the best it can be. Adjacent are a few commonly asked questions that I hope will help put you at ease and understand my process better.

I live far away but would still like to work with you!

Finding a professional music producer to help with your production can be a daunting task. Restricting yourself to someone local can often make this near impossible. For me, location is no problem. I’m based in Spondon, UK, (in the East Midlands between Derby and Nottingham), but I have worked with artists from all over the world, including the USA, France and even Australia. Read on to discover more about how I work with clients remotely.

How does working together remotely work?

Pretty easily! Simply put, we have a quick chat over the phone or Skype to get to know each other and learn more about your project. You then send me a rough demo and I put together the arrangement. Once you’re absolutely delighted with it, you record the vocals at a local studio, send me the WAVs and I mix and master your final piece. I work in this way a lot and am happy to provide any recordings or testimonials from artists I’ve worked with from a distance.

If you work on a song I've written, how does it work with copyright and songwriting credits?

I don’t claim any of the songwriting credits, or copyright in the sound recording, unless it’s clearly agreed beforehand. So, the songwriting credits remain yours and the sound recording too (once it’s paid for).

Have you worked with many successful artists?

Yes! Although Adele is not knocking on my door (yet), artists whose tracks I have produced have been played on BBC Radio 1, Radio 2, 6Music and dozens of other stations, and sold in their thousands.

Will you produce my song for free?

I’m afraid not – this is my job.

Testimonials

“Ben is the most intuitive producer I have ever worked with. His ability to anticipate my preferences and reactions makes producing my music such an enjoyable process…”

Alison Gray
– Production

“My tracks lacked that magic touch and I could never put my finger on what that missing element was. In walks Ben Haynes. He saw the potential in my songs and was an absolute dream to work with. His strength is getting inside the head of the artist to understand their sound, style and message.”

Karl William Lund

“I recently worked with Ben on my album. I came to him with a bunch of ideas and sketchy songs and he helped me develop and produce both my lyrics and music. His ideas were always offered and never forced and were always right on the mark…”

Kezia Gill

“Being so demanding, some may say I was being unrealistic, until I found Ben!  Some tracks I had a preconceived idea of what I wanted, others I had no idea. Either way, Ben would quickly email me back a first draft and literally, every time the first draft came back…it was spot on!”

George Simpson

“Ben isn’t just the guy that presses the record button and gives you the thumbs up to start singing – he takes the time to understand you as a songwriter and immerses himself within the production of each song, offering consistently excellent advice regarding structure, instrumentation, harmonies and more!…”
